So we just got back from three weeks on the road.  Well, on the river, on the rocks, and on bikes.  We went down Desolation Grey with Holiday River Expeditions.  Interesting trip since Brad and I have done a bit of river running and the other family had never camped before.  Pulling into camp they were given umbrellas, and chairs, and snacks, while we squatted in the shade of the bushes.  High maintenance vs. low maintenance, I guess.

 Lots of nice rock art from the Fremont.  We did some good two mile hikes to find these. Then on to Capitol Reef to hike and visit with a ranger friend transplant from the Grand Canyon.  We brought the mountain bikes, but it was so  hot we spent most of the time in canyons instead where there was at least some shade.

 Finally to the North Rim where we stayed in some nice little Forest Service cabins.  Fifty dollars a night for a small cabin with a separate shower, bathroom, and kitchen.  The second day the water began to run out.  Maybe the tank was getting empty?  Just a trickle of water from the pipes, and had to flush the johns with non potable water from the outside faucets.  There was a number to call for the Forest Service, but no phones and no cell service.  I guess we were supposed to send up smoke signals.  Did a couple of hikes and one bike ride.  Everyplace was at least a 40 minute drive on dirt road, however, we didn't run into any other hikers or bikers.
